The International Memorial Relay started on the eve of the Day of Remembrance and Mourning on June 22, 2026. The event is part of the megaproject "Gift to the Motherland", implemented on the initiative of the Chairman of the Council on Historical Memory of the World Peoples Assembly, Professor of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi Laila Akhmetova.

In two years, the megaproject has brought together more than 130 initiatives from around the world, from family stories and school museums to international community projects, scientific research and memorial programs.

"Gift to the Motherland" is an international memorial chronicle, which may include the history of one family, a school museum, a search expedition and a major public initiative.

- On June 22, we remember not only the events of the war. We remember the people who fought at the front, worked in the rear, survived the hardest trials and saved the future for us," - the organizers say. - Each participant of the megaproject makes his own gift to the Motherland. Someone returns the forgotten names of heroes, someone preserves family archives, creates museums, conducts research, works with young people, looks after memorials or implements public initiatives of memory. It is such stories the people’s memory is formed.

Today, "Gift to the Motherland" is not a competition or a grant program. It is an international community of like-minded people united by a common memory and a common cause.

- As part of the International Memory Relay, we will talk about the most interesting and significant initiatives, research, and family stories that will complement the megaproject. If you are implementing your own project, conducting research, preserving your family history, or just starting your journey in preserving historical memory, join us," - the organizers of the project urge. - The history of the country consists of millions of human destinies. To keep memory at least one of them is already a real gift to the Motherland.
