An expanded meeting of the Council of the World Peoples Assembly on Historical Memory was held on September 19, 2026 at the World Trade Center. The event became part of the Second World Public Assembly "New World: Values that Unite", which ended in Moscow in September 2026.

The main purpose of the large-scale event was the discussion and presentation of projects that will determine the strategy and work plan of the Council for 2027-2030. Historians, search groups, documentary filmmakers and public figures from Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Transnistria, as well as Poland, Estonia, Romania, Canada and other countries took part in the informative discussion.

The event was moderated by Maxim Sidorov, Head of the Directorate for the Preservation of Historical Memory of the World Peoples Assembly, and Laila Akhmetova, Chairman of the Council for Historical Memory of the World Peoples Assembly, Professor at al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Opening the meeting, Laila Akhmetova noted the impressive geography of the organization: from a Eurasian platform for discussion and coordination, the Council and the Assembly transformed into a community bringing together representatives from 163 countries around the world.

Valery Ruzin, Deputy Secretary General of the World Peoples Assembly, stressed that historical memory and historical truth play a crucial role in global processes today. The speaker focused on an alarming trend: the disintegration of public consciousness in a number of countries begins precisely with the loss of memory of the past, which makes this area a factor not only of national but also of international security.

The discussion was continued by Andrey Chebotarev, Director of the Center for Current Research "Alternative". He proposed to develop a unified history of the post-Soviet space in the format of a fundamental textbook or a multi-volume publication. The expert expressed confidence that creative teams from different countries could work on such a large-scale project.

- Each State has its own view of the past, but there are opportunities to combine points of view, and it is important to use them, - Andrei Chebotarev said.

Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan, leader of the rock band Scooter Ilyas Autov suggested involving talented young people in the development of high-quality content and responsible development of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence.

The participants paid special attention to the activities in the "western direction". Andrei Romanchuk, coordinator of the Immortal Regiment in Poland, said that the campaign has not been held in the country since 2020, and Polish textbooks are increasingly distorting the interpretation of the history of the Second World War.

The participants unanimously recognized the need to continue working to preserve historical memory, including through public initiatives. For example, Alexey Dymov, president of the International Association of Friends of St. Petersburg, called for the installation of a monument to a participant in World War II in Toronto at the cemetery where the 108-year-old veteran is buried.

- Such a step will become a symbol of respect for heroes and a response to those who mock historical memory, - Alexey Dymov is convinced.

The participants noted the importance of creating an expert group of historical consultants to work with documentary filmmakers. They also discussed the idea of developing games for esports players, where the main characters would be participants of the Great Patriotic War.

Delegates from Uzbekistan spoke about the republic's contribution to the Victory and the painstaking work to identify the victims. Representatives of Kyrgyzstan shared the projects of the local blockade society, and experts from Kazakhstan raised the issue of the need to create a common history textbook and talked about the difficulties of holding the Immortal Regiment campaign in the regions.

Summing up, Valery Ruzin outlined the main vectors of the Council's work for the near future:

  • development of the search movement;

  • formation of the International Public Committee "Won Together";

  • promotion of the initiative to give May 9 the status of an international holiday;

  • Support for the Immortal Regiment movement;

  • organization of international gatherings of the descendants of the winners.

The moderator stressed that this year it is planned to celebrate events dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Moscow, and in 2027 the 85th anniversary of the counteroffensive at Stalingrad will be celebrated.

In conclusion, the participants were invited to send their projects and proposals to the Directorate of the Council for Historical Memory of the World Peoples Assembly to form a work plan for 2027-2030.
