From Vienna to Bratislava: The World Peoples Assembly builds the European Agenda of Historical Memory
The working trip to Austria and Slovakia on March 31 – April 4, 2026, of the Deputy Secretary General of the World Peoples Assembly, Jurijus Trakselis, clearly demonstrated how humanitarian initiatives can unite states, experts and public organizations around a common historical agenda.
In Vienna, Jurijus Trakselis had a working meeting with Oleg Ksenofontov, Director of the Russian Center for Science and Culture, held with the support of Rossotrudnichestvo. During the negotiations, he received materials for the preparation of the international publication "One Victory for All. Austria". It is planned to be released in Russian, German and English. At the same time, a large-scale photographic fixation of war memorials related to the events of World War II was carried out, which will become part of further research and educational projects of the World Peoples Assembly.
The meeting paid special attention to the preparation of the World Public Summit: Europe, which will take place in September 2026 in Vienna. The discussion with Irina Dshajani, a member of the Supreme Advisory Council of the World Peoples Assembly, Chair of the Eurasian Partnership Association, confirmed the high level of interest of European partners and their willingness to form a meaningful international program.
In Bratislava, working meetings were held with the leadership of the European Foundation for Slavic Literature and Culture, headed by Igor Bondarenko. The meeting was dedicated to the preparation of the book "One Victory for All. Slovakia". The work is carried out in close cooperation with the expert community and public organizations, what ensures a high level of reliability and international participation. Following the negotiations, an agreement was reached on the preparation and signing of a cooperation agreement between the European Foundation for Slavic Literature and Culture and the World Peoples Assembly
An important part of the visit was the participation of the delegation of the World Peoples Assembly in commemorative events at the Slavin Memorial Complex dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Bratislava. Laying wreaths at the memorial became a symbol of respect for the shared history and the heroic deeds of the peoples who fought against Nazism.
Also, during the trip, Jurijus Trakselis held meetings with the diplomatic corps, including talks with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Slovak Republic Sergey Andreev, and interaction with public organizations, including the Slovak Union of Anti-Fascist Fighters.
The working trip showed that the World Peoples Assembly’s projects in historical memory are of the practical international cooperation level. The emerging agenda unites research, memorial and educational activities, turning historical memory into the basis of sustainable humanitarian cooperation.
