Jawaharlal Nehru University and the World Peoples Assembly have opened up New Horizons for Cooperation
On October 29, 2026 delegation of the World Peoples Assembly met with students and faculty members of the Center for Russian Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. For the World Peoples Assembly this meeting was a continuation of the partnership with the university, which has been developing since 2018.
The conversation took place in a lively atmosphere: the participants discussed international projects, youth initiatives, culture and preservation of linguistic diversity.
The event was initiated and organized by Sonu Saini, a member of the Supreme Advisory Council of the World Peoples Assembly, Chairman of the Union of Russian Language Translators of India and associate professor at the Center for Russian Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University. The meeting was opened by the head of the center, Professor Kiran Singh Verma.
The delegation of the World Peoples Assembly described what the organization is up to today and what new opportunities it is opening up for international cooperation. Chairperson of the General Council Svetlana Smirnova presented the key areas of activity of the World Peoples Assembly, spoke about results of the Second World Public Assembly, which was held in September 2026 in Moscow, and outlined plans for the near future. Larisa Trunina, Advisor to the Chairperson of the General Council, introduced the audience to the work of the Youth Assembly and its projects. Irina Polyakova, head of the Spiritual Culture Directorate, introduced activities of the World Peoples Assembly, which are aimed at promoting interreligious dialogue and strengthening spiritual traditions.
The main event of the meeting was a lively dialogue with students. Young people asked questions about traditions and beliefs of different peoples, about cultural diversity and international initiatives. The conversation showed that Indian youth are not just interested in such projects, but are also ready to get involved in joint work.
The discussion went beyond a simple exchange of opinions. The participants outlined areas for further collaboration:
joint efforts to preserve languages;
support for student research;
publication of scientific works by young authors.
Another important initiative was also put forward - to hold events and meetings within the framework of the Public Diplomacy Forum regularly at the university’s venue.
Elena Shlotgauer, an employee of the Rossotrudnichestvo office in India and director of the Russian Language Studies Center at the Russian House in New Delhi, joined the conversation. She supported the idea of partnership and confirmed Russian House’s readiness to become another platform for joint projects of World Peoples Assembly.
The meeting at Jawaharlal Nehru University was an important part of the working trip of the World Peoples Assembly delegation to India. This visit strengthened existing ties and provided a powerful impetus for new joint initiatives.
